All patient lifting devices are required to have (at least) an Annual Inspection and Certification as covered under the following standards - AS/NZS 3551:2012 (Management Programs for Medical Equipment) and

AS/NZS ISO 10535:2011 (Hoists for the transfer of disabled persons - Requirements and test methods). Refer to the Standards tab for explanation of these standards.

As a minimum the manufacturers service guidelines are followed when carrying out a Hoist Service - all components are thouroughly inspected for normal wear or damage. Castors are cleaned, articulated joints are checked for wear and lubricated, electrical components are checked for function, battery capacity and condition checked, cables checked for damage, overal condition of the hoist is assessed and finally a Performance and Verification check (which also includes electrcal safety) in accordance with AS/NZS 3551 and a weight test to the SWL (safe working load) using suspended weights in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 10535 is carried out.
